Why a radio network in 2026?

Three principles guide every technical decision and every node deployment.

Resilience

Stay able to communicate even when telecom networks go down: storms, power outages, emergencies in the mountains. Messages hop from node to node, without depending on a carrier's antenna.

Free software, open protocols, no proprietary platform, no surveillance. You keep your data. The code, the hardware, and the documentation are all public.

Nodes powered by solar energy, low power draw, low environmental impact. Built to last ten years, not eighteen months — repairable, open, frugal.

The territory

In the Pyrenees, dead zones are the rule, not the exception.

On the ridges, in the deep valleys, behind La Rhune — you regularly cross mobile dead zones with no mobile signal at all. And when a storm cuts the power, the nearest 4G antenna goes down with it.

This isn't a replacement for your phone. It's a second string to your bow, for the moments when the first one fails.

LarrunKonnect is building an alternative: a community radio network, independent from the power grid and the Internet, where every node relays its neighbours' messages.

In three steps

How the network grows

No magic involved: some hardware, free software, and a neighbour who decides to switch on their node.

STEP 01

You have a node

A small standalone device — around €30, powered by battery, USB, or solar panel. Set up at home, on a roof, or on high ground.

STEP 02

The node relays

Every message hops from node to node. No central server, no carrier. The network organises itself and finds the best path.

STEP 03

The network grows

The more members there are, the wider the coverage. Every new node strengthens the mesh and benefits the whole local community.
